He is God

“Just don’t give up on Him!”

On reading those words in an email from a friend, tears began to slip down my face. I really identified with the implications of that statement (or command, rather). I really did feel like giving up and withdrawing my trust from God. These past few weeks have been draining and hard. And my faith has been so small and weak—I didn’t feel like trusting God. Is God really good? Has He abandoned me?

Thankfully, there is more to life than my own personal feelings. I also identified with the other fact implied by my friend’s words, a fact that I know to be true: God is completely trustworthy, He is I AM. This morning I don’t have any formulas for perseverance or wise words of wisdom. Rather, let me just share with you what He’s been teaching me:

To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. [Isaiah 40:25-31, KJV]

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. [Jeremiah 23:5-6, KJV]

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.[Revelation 4:11, KJV]

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. [Psalm 73:26, KJV]

“Just don’t give up on Him.”

He’s not going to fail me. He is God and there is none like Him.

  3. Trust in Him, Katie, He will get you through. You are in my prayers.

  4. Good verses. Allow God to use the weak times to make you strong in Him. It’s when we think we are strong enough that we’re really in trouble. When we know we need His Strength and that we are weak we are on the right track.

  5. Thank you so much for sharing your struggles and your determination not to doubt God’s unchanging character. This is something that I have had to do countless times in the last year. It’s one thing to intellectually be able to quote that God is, and that He won’t fail, but the practice of living in that knowledge is a far taller order. But God is good, His desire for us is more than to create a peope whose minds are full of beautiful biblical truths, but more so a people who KNOW their God and experience in reality the biblical truths they know in their heads.

This said, I’m going to pray with and for you in your struggles…there are times in our Christian walk that it’s our friends that carry us to Christ, sometimes we are too weak to do it ourselves…I’ve experienced much of that this year gone…praise God for our wider Christian family.

Till He brings deliverance…keep holding on…however thin you assume the cord you hang on…God will not allow it to break…never. Even if it did…underneath are His everlasting Arms.

    Liz xx
