One of Those Weeks
Ever had “one of those weeks”? I’m sure you know what I mean. You know, those weeks where nothing seems to fall into place, deadlines stack up, time with the Lord grows scarce, and when anxiety knocks at the door, you’re all too tempted to open it.
Well, my friends, I’ll honestly admit that this has been “one of those weeks” for this particular blogger! Despite struggles with sin, deadlines, and stress, however, the Lord has graciously reminded me of His faithfulness. Yesterday as I had the opportunity to simply sit and reflect on the various stresses and temptations filling my life, the Lord revived the concept of grace in my heart.
Grace: God’s unmerited favor towards those who deserve wrath.
So gently, He has reminded me that in Him is all sufficiency to accomplish everything He wants me to accomplish, overcome every sin, and ward off every temptation. And despite my numerous failings, He will remain faithful.
I can’t say all this as accurately as Scripture, however. Let us never forget to run to the piercing word of God during “those weeks” (and every day!).
“What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? By no means!” Romans 3:3-4a (ESV)
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, ‘He has distributed freely, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.’ He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.” Romans 9:8-12
“The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
In the words of Charles Spurgeon (who never seems to fail at getting right to the heart of things),
“As for His failing you, never dream of it—hate the thought! The God who has been sufficient until now should be trusted to the end.”
Amen, and amen. This really encouraged me, Kate, as this week has indeed been one of THOSE weeks.
Yet, He’s still been more than faithful.
