He Will Be Good
I didn’t want to surrender this. The Lord was claiming it—taking it away from me. It was for my good, He told me. But I liked things as they were, and didn’t want to give it up. I didn’t think I would be happy without this thing; didn’t think I could do without it. Yet, here was my Savior, telling me to let it go. Could I trust Him with it? Was I willing to trust that He would do good to me by taking it away—that it would work out well in the end?
On my own, I was most certainly not willing to trust Him that much. Yet, the Holy Spirit convicted me, challenging me to trust the Lord. If my heavenly Father asked me to give up something, how could I not? He had already done so much good for me—most of all, in saving me from my bondage to sin and death, and by giving me life and hope in Him—could I not trust this God to continue to do good to me?
Indeed, we can trust Him to do good, and to know what’s best for us. I can surrender my all to Him because He has given me so much already. The Lord led me to the following verses, and I trust they will be as encouraging to you as they were to me:
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” - Ephesians 3:20-21, ESV
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him…” - 1 Corinthians 2:9, ESV
“…which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” - Matthew 7:9-11, ESV

Whose hands are those? No, I’m just kidding. Don’t you love comments like that? =) Good post! Yeah, it’s so hard to surrender sometimes. When I was younger, I used to go, “Okay, when I’m in Heaven I’ll look back on this point in my life and think, ‘What an idiot! Why was I such a coward? I missed out on so much!’ if I don’t surrender everything to God right here, right now, and go the way He’s leading me.” Because of surrendering, though, I have found that giving up is actually gaining something far greater. For example, giving up friendships or wealth, I gained so much more because it made way for a close friendship with God and the riches of knowing Him — so much better. When He takes something away from us, it is always because He wants something better for us. He is actually taking away the temporal and offering us the Eternal. Doesn’t always look like it at the moment from down on the ant hill with our limited little ant-perspectives… but He’s got the big picture. Thanks for the encouragement of this post. God bless you, Hännah!!
